An idea for video game creators.

This is something that’s been rolling around in the back of my brain for some time. If this ends up becoming a feature in games, you heard it here first!

What I’m proposing is a game mode called “middle-aged”. This mode would be similar to the “last week on” recap for some TV series. It’d realize that you’re old and don’t have as much free time as the game requires, and maybe you haven’t played in a while. It’d then be like “OK listen, you were in this village because the old guy in the last village told you this village contained the next piece of the puzzle. This village doesn’t have the puzzle piece, you already figured that out – you were actually going to go to another village – but hadn’t left this one yet. Also, you’re trying to rescue Zelda.”

Cause I have to be honest, some games I put down, and don’t pick up for a while. In some cases, over a year. It’s baffling I know, but this is the way it goes sometimes. When I pick the game up again I’m often like a) what the hell is going on, and b) how the hell do I play this game? And so I’d reset and start again from scratch. I don’t want to admit how many times this has happened.

And while I’m at it, if Games Workshop could release a hyper-dumbed-down ruleset for Age of Sigmar and 40K that’d be awesome. If the rules are more than 3 pages long for any army, I can’t do it! I’m old and I just don’t have the time.

To game designers everywhere – you’re welcome.
